Sunday was our first day skiing on the mountain. We didn't make it to the slopes till 11, and by 3 we were toast. Nonetheless, we were completely captivated by the beautiful mountain and had a wonderful time getting our skis (and board) into the snow.

After resting up a bit, then headed via gondola into the town of Telluride for food and souvenir shopping. We ate at a local eatery -- basic food -- shopped for groceries, then commuted back up to Mountain Village. The opening night event for the gay ski week was sparsely attended, maybe 40 people total. The food was delicious, and the gift bag was a functional backpack with the gay ski week logo, and lots of freebies inside. We stayed for only about an hour, chatted up with a few folks from NYC, and then hit the hay.

Monday we took a 2-hour mountain ski tour offered by the Telluride resort. There was only one other gay guy in the group of 15, but everyone was charmingly friendly. At lunch time we went to Gorronos, the mid-mountain Gay Ski Week designated lunch time rendez vous.

There weren't many obviously gay people at Gorronos, but we lucked out and hooked up with Dennis and Ken (from Forth Worth) and Elaine from Seattle. The six of us spent the rest of the afternoon up and down the mountain, with lots of fun breaks chatting up and getting to know each other. The afternoon sun on the mountain top was fantastic; warm enough to chuck our shirts while we sipped hot chocolate.

Later that evening Ken and Dennis came over for dinner -- Dave cooked -- and our conversations went all over the map. I'd almost forgotten how much fun it can be to have a quiet evening socializing.
